THE Reserva (2006) has a
generous history as brand of Campo Viejo and also as a Spanish wine. The Grape Type, consists of 75 per cent
Tempranillo, 15per cent Graciano and 10 per cent Mazuelo, all blended into the
final wine.
This wine is produced in a typical Rioja
style, and shows good fruit concentration with a composition of varieties like, jammy red fruit,
vanilla coconut, raspberries and blackberries, liquor ice, pepper, vanilla,
coconut, cherries and black plums.
The colour is rugby red, with a gold
rim, and the wine is quite transparent around the edges and almost a dark pink
shade.
Campo Viejo
Reserva is a wine for those who appreciate rich, robustly flavoured dishes.
When it comes to food matching, it is an ideal partner to rustic red-meat
dishes such as roast shoulder of lamb and autumnal game stews. It is also the
perfect accompaniment to chunks of smoky chorizo. It is also well suited with pork, lamb chops and grilled steak. Alternatively, it could be enjoyed with an after-dinner
platter of Spanish blue cheeses.
Not suitable for vegetarians, the red wine, which has an alcoholic volume of 13.5 per cent, has the subtly spicy undertones of
vanilla, cloves and pepper, and is smooth and balanced on the palate with full,
elegant feel and a long lingering finish, with cocoa and coffee come through.
