Outdooring of Arewa Onijogbon

FRIENDS, family members and stakeholders in the Nigerian movie industry gathered at the 10 Degrees Event Centre, Oregun, to felicitate with Tayo Sobola on the premiere of her movie, Arewa Onijogbon.

    Directed by Muyideen S. Ayinde, the hilarious Yoruba movie dwells on parenthood, especially the conflicts between stepmothers and stepdaughters.

    According to the producer, Sobola, an Olabisi Onabanjo University Public Administration graduate, the movie is set to make a statement in the industry.

   Before now, she had featured in many music videos with artistes, including 2face Idibia, Artquake, Jahborne, Danny Young, 2Shotz, Da Natives, Sheyman, Freewindz and Lord of Ajasa.

  She has also starred in movies such as Jacki-Phillips’, Super Woman, Iwowo Abiamo, Ejiworo, Ewu Loko Longe and Ojukoju.

      Among celebrities that graced the event were Dj Zeez, Moji Olaiya, Denrele Edun, Sheyman, Jaiye Kuti and comedian Sanyeri.

Court stops Federal Government from renaming UNILAG

Justice Stephen Adah of the federal high court, Lagos today granted an interim order restraining the Federal Government from renaming the University of Lagos. The court ruled in the suits brought against the renaming of the institution by the students and alumni of the University of Lagos.



The case had been adjourned till July 4.

NARTO charges corp members on insurance scheme

Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has urged corp. members, to participate in the Group Personal Accident (GPA) insurance scheme, which will insure them on some peculiar risks, stressing that they will also be entitled to some other medical benefits.

 Speaking at an event, organized to introduce the insurance scheme to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), The national president of NARTO, Alhaji Kazeem Bafaiya, who was represnted by his deputy, Chief Ayoola Sadiku, said that the scheme was one of the association’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and that it is in partnership with NEM Insurance PLC.

 He explained that the reason for the establishment of the insurance scheme is as a result of some social vices, which corp. members face during their service year.

 “The decision to introduce this scheme is borne out of corp. members, who have been exposed to various life threatening hazards, excruciating experiences and other social vices”. He said.

 Sadiku, who also said that the scheme, which also allows for corp members to subscribe with 5,000naira, will enable them enjoy free emergency evacuation to any hospital of their choice in Nigeria and treatment of medical injury, which costs up to 500,000 thousand naira.

He also emphasized that cost of medicines, operations fees, surgical appliances, and hospital charges, incurred with any injury by any type of accident, either water or air, will, will also be settled by the scheme.

He however called on the government, both on the federal, state and local levels, to key into the vision, and make the subscription of the insurance sheme, a policy for corp members who are their indigenes and those serving within their states.

Philip needs help for plastic surgery

Philip Akhigbe, 20, is a student who finished his secondary education at Abusabi Secondary School, Benin, Edo State. He had written necessary examinations to qualify him into one of Nigeria’s higher institutions, when he was involved in an accident in 2008.

 The unfortunate incident, which led to a fatal injury in his head and leg, delayed him from gaining admission into his desired institution. The accident was said to have happened by the side of the road on his way home from school, and during the process of treatment, lost his right ear.

 Explaining how the incident happened, Philip said, “I noticed a car coming afar with full speed, but before I knew anything, I was already on the floor. My leg was broken and my head was badly injured. It was with the help of sympathizers that I was rushed to the Accident Emergency Unit of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), for treatment.        

  Philip said that after some days, during the process of treating the head, the doctor noticed that the colour of his right ear had turned black and was stiff. It was diagnosed that the ear was infected and was given antibiotics to treat out the infections, but every efforts to get the ear back to its normal state, proved abortive. It was later discovered that there was no more life in the ear, and was left with no option other than to cut it off, because the ear was totally bad.

 Now, Philip needs to do a surgery of an artificial ear, to replace the bad one. He was referred to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), and was later transferred to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where he was temporarily treated because the doctors said there was no equipment for the surgery to be done in their hospital.

He is now proceeding to Israel, for a plastic surgery to be carried out, so that he can be able to hear properly.

   Philip needs to meet up with the specific amount of 4.5,000,000(Four Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only), but has so far, gathered 300,000 Thousand Naira only.                                                                       

For Philip’s hopes and aspiration of continuing his education to be fulfilled, he is calling on Nigerians, Compassionate individuals, NGOs and Organizations to come to his rescue.

Rev. Okotie ends second marriage

Rev Chris Okotie's second marriage has sadly ended after only four years. The Head Pastor of Household of God announced in church a few hours ago after the last service that he has separated from Stephanie Henshaw whom he married in August 2008. He told his congregation that he wanted to be the one to break the sad news to them and hoped for their understanding. He also said there was no going back...that the marriage was over!


This is Rev Okotie's second failed marriage.

A bespoke experience with Habana

ADE Olodun, creative director of Habana, an outfit that majors in men’s clothing, is living his dreams: dressing up men in bespoke attires.

  Before setting up the outfit, Olodun, a graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, had done post-graduate training programmes at the Hult International Business School and London College of Fashion, both in UK, to hone his fashion and business skills.

   He says the business started for him from his dissatisfaction with existing brands. “We needed our own style to wear to job interviews and corporate events; so, we started to do something in that regards and people keyed into it.”  

  Going professionally six years ago, the designer chose to specialise in men’s clothing because he wanted to infuse modernity and timelessness into his pieces.

  “I grew up marveling at some brands, which have ceased to diminish with time like Rolls-Royce, Rolex, Breitling, Phillipe Patek. So, while having a taste of style, it is value for money for the piece to be an enduring one,” he says.

    He adds, “while growing up, I have always had the opportunity to be properly dressed; and becoming conscious of that, I went about dressing people properly. So, making dresses or dressing well is more of a process.”

    He also recalled how his family gave him all the necessary encouragement needed since designing was an effortless passion for him.

  Commenting on the challenges in the industry, Olodun notes, “fitting sessions for clients remains a major challenge, due to traffic issues and work schedules; but we are subduing it.”

  Apart from designing, Olodun finds time for his pastime — reading. “You can never imagine a designer, reading books on Chairman Mao and a host of others,” he says.

  Inspired by the smile on the face of a satisfied client, the CEO of Habana plans to consolidate on his creativity and maintain a viable structure that would deliver value services to clients.
